Flint's trainees prove worth in shopping task
A DERBY law firm has taken on four trainee solicitors after coming up with a novel selection process.
More than 400 graduates applied for the vacancies at Flint Bishop.
Given the fierce competition between applicants, Flint Bishop whittled down the final dozen shortlisted by giving each one £2 and sending them to the nearest pound shop.
The were charged with finding two products – one that represented them and one that represented Flint Bishop.
They were then required to present the reasons for their choice to the interview panel.
Those that made the cut were Edward Sanderson, Alexander Parkes, Nathan Gray and Beth Bearder, all of whom passed a legal practice course following graduation.
They will now join Flint Bishop for a two-year placement and will work alongside industry experts in a variety of fields.
Managing partner Ken Dixon said: "Flint Bishop is committed to providing meaningful training opportunities to graduates.
"This year's candidates were of an exceptionally high standard and I would like to welcome Edward, Alex, Beth and Nathan to the team."

Applications now open for JUSTICE Winter Internship Programme 2012
Winter interns undertake legal research in one of JUSTICE's main areas of policy work: either human rights, criminal justice or EU justice and home affairs. For this reason we are now seeking applications from law graduates only. The winter internship programme will take place during January and February 2012. The internship is part-time and ideally applicants should be able to commit to working in our central London office 4 days per week, from 10am-5pm, for a 6 week block at some point in January and February, however this is flexible. Internships are unpaid but interns are reimbursed for travel and lunch expenses incurred while working at JUSTICE. More information & to apply

Good administration staff with excellent telephone and customer service skills are vital to the effective operation of the Customer Contact Centre and other departments within the Office of the Public Guardian and Ministry of Justice.
Administration Officers are assigned to the Customer Contact Centre to answer and support customers with their queries about Powers of Attorney and Deputyships. There will be some opportunity to exercise discretion and initiative within a framework of well-established systems and processes. Problem solving is carried out by reference to comprehensive guidelines and instructions – complex or difficult issues are normally referred to a team leader or duty manager. Administrative Officers work within a team with regular management support, although there may be some opportunity to provide advice and carry out limited supervision of others.
