Graduate Opportunity - Policy & Project Officer Borough of Broxbourne

Reporting to the Housing Policy and Project Manager, the post holder will assist in the delivery of performance monitoring, affordable housing development programme, and housing policy and initiatives. You will need to be flexible to deal with a wide variety of tasks to tight deadlines. As well as good communications skills, a high level of IT literacy with the ability to interrogate databases and produce reports is required.

This is a high profile job, which will entail working with senior managers as well as front line staff. Experience of local authority housing strategy and development would be helpful. 14 toughest interview questions

Forbes magazine looked at the toughest interview questions - here are their examples, with suggestions on how to answer them. What are your experiences/views?

1. Tell me about yourself? Explain your education, work history, experience & personality highlighting how this meets the job.
2. What do you know about us? Discuss products, services, revenues, reputation, image, goals, problems, management style, people, history and culture.
3. Why do you want to work for us? Be specific about an interest you have that matches what the company does or the role entails.
4. What can you do for us that someone else can't? Don’t be afraid to boast, be a person that gets things done and has a positive, enthusiastic outlook.
5. Why should we hire you? Think how to match your skills, experience and attitude to the role and company.
6. What do you look for in a job? Focus on what the company has to offer and the opportunity it provides – not job security.
7. How long would it take you to make a meaningful contribution to our firm? Be realistic – dependent upon role and only fair to take time to get to know the task and company well, but you will always be working hard from day one.
8. How long would you stay with us? Interested in developing a career, so long as there is opportunity.
9. Your CV suggests that you may be over-qualified or too experienced for this position? You will contribute quickly and good teams can never have too much experience.
10. What is your management style? Think of when you have lead projects Task or results oriented? Caring or directing? Make sure you can discuss your style.
11. Are you a good manager? Think of your team leading roles. Focus on achievements, skills and attitude.
12. What important trends do you see in our industry? Discuss 2 or 3 technology, economic, competitive or regulatory challenges affecting the business.
13. What do you feel this position should pay? Avoid giving a figure, suggest the range you understand to be the market rate for the role and skills you have.
14. What are your long-range goals? Relate to the company you are interviewing for, and how they can help you achieve your goals.

The Co-Op will be re-opening the application process for Business Management programme applications for the 2011 programme (starting September 2011) on 30th May 2011. Top firms take action on social mobility

As The Lawyer revealed last month (4 April), a group of senior magic circle partners ­recently convened a summit meeting at the offices of Allen & Overy (A&O) to explore ways their firms could ­collaborate to level the playing field for ­candidates from less well-off backgrounds.
